Operation & Maintenance of Small Scale Wastewater Treatment Plants & Management of Green Houses

 

 

Introduction:

 

Following the successful implementation of fifteen grey waste water treatment plants and fifteen green houses in North Jerusalem area, PWEG supported by Welfare Association has started an intensive and efficient capacity building project focused on operation and maintenance of treatment plants and cultivation of green houses. The purpose of this Project is to enhance women skills in management of house garden and available water resources and its recycling and reuse in agriculture, and empower the beneficiaries to operate and maintain the wastewater treatment plants.


Target Area

 

The Project serve four communities in the Governorate of Jerusalem, as following; Qatannah, Qubeibeh, Bet Inan and Kharab Al Lahem.

 

Goal

 

Sustainable and effective operation and maintenance of on site wastewater treatment plants and safe reuse of treated effluent in agriculture.

 

Outputs:

 

Training of 45 direct beneficiaries and 45 indirect beneficiaries on operation and maintenance of treatment plants and protected agriculture.

Achieve a promotion campaign on food production.

Training of 90 direct and indirect beneficiaries on  health protection, conservation of water resources and reuse of treated wastewater in agriculture.

 

 

Technical Training

 

By reinforcing the training component, sustainability of the project will be strengthened where direct and indirect beneficiaries as well as local authoritys representatives will be more qualified and will better maximize benefits obtained from the project. Beneficiaries are learning more about operation and maintenance of grey water treatment units and women association members are more empowered and more aware about the importance of generating food at a house hold level and about the need of protection of the environment and the water resources. Particular attention is be paid to operation and maintenance of grey water treatment plants, irrigation and agricultural component; training includes also crops selection and cultivation, methods of surface and sub surface irrigation, crops pattern and green houses maintenance.
